Mohammad Ridzuan Abdul Aziz
Ridzuan was a Senior Market Examiner (1997 to 2005) overseeing intermediaries supervision at Bursa Malaysia. He later joined the Malaysian Securities Commission and was involved in the oversight of fund management, unit trust and secondary bond market trading.
Ridzuan then joined Macquarie Capital Securities Malaysia (2005 to 2009) as the Head of Compliance. He was the regulatory resource person during the establishment of Macquarie Capital Securities Malaysia and played key role for the special scheme license obtained by the firm.
His regulatory experiences with Macquarie attracted a Japanese firm, Nomura Securities to offer him a position as their Head of Compliance Malaysia. Ridzuan moved to Nomura in March 2009 and led the local management team for the establishment of Nomura Securities Malaysia Sdn Bhd. He was later appointed as the Head of Monitoring and Surveillance for Asia Pacific and emerging markets (2009 – 2013).
Ridzuan also contributed actively towards improving the Malaysia securities industry regulation and infrastructure development. During his tenure with the Securities Commission, he was a leading team member responsible for the principle computation of the Large Risk Exposure, which was part of the harmonization exercise between Bank Negara Malaysia’s Risk Weighted Capital Ratio and Bursa Malaysia’s Capital Adequacy Ratio.
He was also actively involved with the direct remedial actions taken by Bursa Malaysia (then Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange-KLSE) over financially stricken stock brokers. He was sent to several stock brokers nationwide to supervise fair and orderly transition between the original management with the interim KLSE-appointed team.
Ridzuan has a vast understanding on trading ethics, risk management and corporate governance. He also trains secondary students in Malaysia and Singapore about financial literacy.
Ridzuan graduated from University of Wales, Aberyswyth in 1997 with BSc Economics, majoring in Accounting and Finance. He obtained an MBA from the International Islamic University Malaysia.
